Regulations on construction and demolition waste
A construction and demolition waste project regulates public, commercial, institutional, and industrial. Department in general regulates also the residential structure like apartments with four or more units or residential structure in which it is within 500 feet with each other. A single structure of residential with four or less units is permitted with exemption of the regulations.
Proper disposal should be taken from all demolition construction to a permitted station for transfer whether residential or commercial structure. A part of the regulation before the demolition or renovation project starts, the body requesting of the work must create waste disposal as the part of the said contract. This may turn aside legal responsibility if wastes are nor properly disposed or managed and must be considered during the bidding process by construction contractors.
Demolition waste on construction may make many different types of waste. It includes:
- Regulated Wastes – these cannot be considered as clean fill and not considered for recycling or reuse. These should be properly dispose on landfill or to permitted transfer station.
- Fill of clean – there are considered uncontaminated gravel, rock, soil, blocks, bricks, concrete, and sand, and also minimal quantity of metal, and wood. These may be used for excavated holes to fill from demolition waste of construction.
- Materials recovered – the material recovered from demolition waste and construction can be taken for recycling or reuse such as windows and doors.
Construction and demolition waste that are hazardous – materials like asbestos and lead paint are hazardous waste encountered during construction and demolition waste project. It is important to follow the rules concerning about the management of hazardous waste.
